Accounting Technician of the Year 2007

I am the Financial Controller for Steelpipe New Zealand Ltd. I have been working towards setting up our accounting team for Steelpipe Australia Partnership Ltd, in our new site in Perth. This involves recruiting and inducting both accountants and assistant accountants into our business.
I am still actively involved in the Auckland Branch Committee of the Institute and look to continue my involvement. I recently hosted two students as part of the Executive Insight Programme run by the Auckland Branch.
In the earlier part of this year I was involved in a community support programme. This involved one-hour sessions on budgeting for living costs, and a number of one-on-one sessions for those who required more help at a detailed level.
Since achieving the Accounting Technician of the Year 2007 award, I have become a full member of the ACA College. I have focused my efforts on encouraging new membership of the AT College starting with encouraging my staff to continue with their ongoing tertiary qualifications. This has resulted in one of my staff being accepted as a provisional member of the AT College, sitting PCE1 in October. I was approved as a registered mentor in August.
